Murray State College Lady Aggies open conference play with win

Lanie Gooch pumped in 11 points in the second half to help rally the Murray State Lady Aggies to a 58-50 win over Northeastern A&M in the conference opener Thursday night inside Beames Fieldhouse.

The league favorite Lady Aggies trailed 30-28 at intermission before cranking up the defensive intensity over the final two stanzas and turned to Gooch, who mustered only a single point prior to the break. Murray State utilized a 16-12 edge in the third to go in front 44-42 heading to the final quarter.

Gooch tossed in five points in a low-scoring fourth frame, including a pivotal three-pointer while Reese Webb provided four points and Mattie Busby chipped in a bucket. Overall, the hosts limited the Lady Norse to just eight points in the closing 10 minutes to up their overall record to 5-2 on the season.

Bella Peterson led a well-balanced scoring attack for Murray State and three Lady Aggies in double figures with 13 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Gooch finished with 12 and nine boards and Busby posted 11. In just her second game since returning to the lineup, Webb narrowly missed double digits with nine points but also contributed 10 rebounds.

Jade Millan scored six, all in the first half, with McKenna Johnson adding four and Remi Langmaid three.
