Southeastern rodeo was led by Mataya Eklund on the women’s side while Luke Thrash paced the men at the Fort Scott CC Rodeo in Fort Scott, Kan.
The women turned in a second-place shoring for the weekend, while the men finished fifth as a team.
Those finishes move the men to second in the Central Plains Region standings while the women rank third regionally as a team.
Eklund advanced to the finals in the barrel racing and the goat tying.
In the barrels she finished third in the long-go round with a 14.55 and followed that up with a 14.48 in the finals to again finish third which left her third in the average and moved her to an eighth-place ranking regionally in the event.
Katelyn Hobbie was eighth in the long-go of the barrel racing, but hit a barrel in the finals and took her out of the average but she remains fourth regionally in the event.
In the goat tying, Ekluymd was seventh in the first round with a time of 7.7 and would finish sxith in the average for the weekend in the event.
Hannah Giger and Bailey Witt each posted 7.6 runs in the first round to split 4th/5th/6th, with Giger finishing second in the short-go with a 7.7 to finish second in the average while Witt finished fourth in the finals with an 8.1 to split 3rd/4th in the average.
Jillian Pressley also reached the finals after an eighth-place run and would split 7th/8th in the finals.
Witt is currently ranked third regionally in the goat tying, while Kayla Earnhardt is eighth, Giger is ninth, and Presley is 11th.
Avery Moyer and Hannah Hughes rounded out the women’s events in the breakaway roping where Moyer won the first round with a 2.5 while Hughes advanced to the finals on a 3.1. Hughes would break a barrier in the finals while Moyer took a no time to take both out of the average.
Giger is currently ranked 12th regionally in the breakaway.
For the man, the bareback competition was once again strong as Thrash wont he long-go with an 87-point ride, with Josh Green next in line in fourth with a 78, while Montana Duvall was fifth with a 75.
Thrash was fourth in the finals with a ride of 74 which moved him to second overall in the average.
Green and Duvall each carded rides of 66 in the finals to split fifth in the round, with Green finishing fourth in the average and Duval fifth.
All three are top 10 in the region in the vent as Thrash is currently second in the Central Plains, while Duvall is fourth and Green is sixth.
The saddle bronc riding saw Tyler Pruitt split the top spot in the first round with a 77-point ride, and he followed up with a 70 in the finals which was good for sixth in the round and dropped him to fourth in the average. The performance also moved him to second in the region.
KW Adair, Gus Franzen, and Garrett Elmore each made the finals of the steer wrestling, with Adair and Franzen posting matching 5.7 runs in the long-go while Elmore was right behind with a 5.8.
Adair would follow with a 6.1 in the finals which was good for sixth in the round and the average, while Franzen and Elmore took no times in the finals.
Tyler Ravenscroft is currently ranked eighth in the steer wrestling while Elmore is 13th.
SE also sent a foursome to the finals in the tie down roping, with Rodney Jackson’s 10.3 being good for second in the long-go, while McKade Wickett was sixth with a time of 11.7, while Franzen advanced with a mark of 12.3 and Mason Couch followed with a time of 12.9.
Wickett would finish third in the finals with a time of 10.8 which lifted him to second in the average, while Franzen finished sixth in the finals and sixth in the average.
Jackson is presently ranked fifth regionally while Wickett is 14th.
The Storm did not send anyone to the finals in the bull riding or the team roping, but Caden Bunch remains third in the region in the former and Elmore is ranked fifth in the latter.
