Caitlin Kobiske put up a double-double to lead Southeastern, but it was not enough to lift the Savage Storm in a hard-fought 54-50 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena to close out the 2022 fall semester.
The loss drops SE to 3-6 on the season overall and 1-3 in Great American Conference play heading into the holiday break.
Kobiske posted a game-high 14 points to lead the way on offense, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor while adding a game-high 13 rebounds on the contest.
Briley Moon crossed the double-figure threshold with 10 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the field with a pair of threes, while nearly picking up a double-double as well, finishing the night with 9 rebounds.
Karyssa Jackson added eight points off the bench while Holli Lindley posted seven.
Grace Alverson dished out a team-best four assists while Aimee Alverson and Abbie Barr each turned in two.
SE took an early lead with the first four points of the game but saw NWOSU come back and tie the contest which then saw the teams trade one-possession leads before the Storm closed the quarter with four-straight points to lead 14-13 after one period.
The teams remained even through the first half of the second quarter before the Rangers reeled off a 7-0 run which saw them take a 25-18 lead before SE trimmed the deficit to 27-22 at the halftime break.
NWOSU scored the first five points of the second half to take a double-digit lead and would see that lead reach 11 points before the Storm started chipping away, first with five-straight points before eventually closing the gap to 39-35 on a Lindley free throw with 1:55 to play in the third.
The Rangers would connect on three with just over a minute to play in the frame and take a 42-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
Southeastern would put together a 9-2 run to knot the game at 44-44 on a Jackson layup with 3:52 to play, but NWOSU would answer with an 8-0 run.
The Storm would put together one final push, closing the gap to 52-50 after a Barr steal and layup with 32 seconds remaining.
However, that was where the rally would end as the Rangers would connect on a pair of free throws to take the game 54-50.
