In a rare dual-match Saturday, Southeastern closed out the day with a 3-0 victory over Southwestern (Kan.), ending a losing skid and bouncing back from a 3-0 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State earlier in the day in Alva, Okla.
The split Saturday result leaves the Savage Storm at 4-21 on the season and 1-12 in Great American Conference play.
Versus the Moundbuilders to end the day, SE was led on offense by Jessica Hardin and Maci Morrison who had nine kills each, while Michera Moffett added seven.
Ruthie Forson led the setters with 18 assists and added four kills, while McKenzie Turkoly chipped in 14 assists and posted nine digs.
Peyton Kriegel led the defense with 10 digs, followed by Turkoly’s and Hardin’s nine each.
At the net, Morrison, Forson, and Avynn La Rose each had a solo block.
Southeastern took six of the final seven points in the first set to take it 25-21 for a 1-0 lead, and followed that up with a dominant 25-11 win in set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, the Storm would rally from an early deficit and finalize its win by scoring the final nine points to take the clinching set 25-13.
In the GAC matchup with the Rangers, Moffett led the way with 10 kills, with Jadyn James adding eight.
Forson and Turkoly posted matching assist totals of 15.
Kriegel would lead the Storm defense with 13 digs, while Faith Krubbe added 12, with James posted a pair of blocks to lead the net defense.
SE would find itself playing catch up for most the first set, ultimately falling 25-19.
After falling behind again in set two, SE would mount a rally and knot the set at 22-22 late, but the Rangers would take the final three points to take the set 25-22.
The teams traded big runs in the third set, with the Storm using theirs to take a 13-9 lead. SE would still hold a 19-18 lead, but NWOSU would take seven of the final eight points to swipe the clinching set 25-20.
