Briley Moon posted a double-double and led four Southeastern scorers in double-figures as the Savage Storm logged a 62-53 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
The win lifts SE to 3-4 overall on the season and 1-1 in Great American Conference play. The win over the Bulldogs also snaps a seven-game losing streak in the series.
"Sloppy," said head coach Darin Grover of the game, "But we got a win. We missed layups. Turned it over early on. We got whatever we wanted offensively. But we didn't finish anything in the first half, and then the second half we didn't play very good defense."
Moon put together a 17-ppiont effort, bolstered by a 7-of-8 effort at the free throw line, while also matching a game-high with 10 rebounds.
Holli Lindley made the most of her first start as she went 6-of-11 from the floor with a trio of threes on her way to a 15-point outing.
Grace Alverson also drained a trio of threes on her way to 11 points, while Maci Bookout was 3-of-3 from the floor as she added 10 points off the bench.
Moon matched the game high in rebounds, as Caitlin Kobiske hauled in 10 as well, with Lindley not far behind with eight boards.
SE finished the afternoon with a 43-to-29 edge on the glass.
Grace Alverson also dished out a game-high six assists, with Kobiske adding three.
Southeastern scored the first five points and would jump out to an 8-2 lead early before SWOSU put together a 7-2 run to close the gap to 10-9 with 3:47 to play in the first quarter.
The teams each went cold from that point as a Moon layup two and a half minutes later would be the next bucket before the teams settled on a 13-11 Storm lead after one quarter.
The Bulldogs would take a brief lead on a three to open the second frame, but an 11-0 SE run that was capped by a Moon three would give the Storm a 24-14 lead.
SWOSU would core the final four points of the half and cut the SE advantage to 24-18 at halftime.
After an early Storm three, the Bulldogs would cut the gap down to five points by the 7:40 mark of the third quarter, and would get as close as four points twice with under four minutes to play in the frame.
SE would respond down the stretch in the third, scoring the final eight points of the quarter, including a halfcourt buzzer beater by Lindley to make the lead 47-34 at the end of three.
Another Lindley three would open scoring in the fourth quarter, giving the Storm its largest lead of the day which it would match twice more with under three minutes to play before SWOSU would close out the game on a 7-0 run to make the final 62-53 in favor of SE.
