Saturday afternoon, the No. 18 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (23-5, 17-5 SAC) concluded the regular season with a thrilling 92-69 victory on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-22, 3-19 SAC).
The Drovers got off to an extremely slow start and trailed 29-21 after 10 minutes of action. However, USAO began to gain some traction in the second quarter, as they outscored OPSU by a 21-17 margin, and cut the deficit to 46-42 at the break.
Following halftime, Science & Arts looked like a brand-new team and DOMINATED the third quarter, outscoring the Aggies 30-11 and took a 72-57 lead into the fourth. USAO outscored OPSU 20-12 in the fourth quarter, as they wrapped up their 23rd win of the season.
At the conclusion of the contest, the Drovers shot 32-67 (.478) from the field, and 9-22 (.409) from three-point range. In comparison, the Aggies went 23-71 (.324) from the field, and 10-33 (.303) from deep.
USAO held a 49-38 advantage in the rebounding battle, and the Drovers outscored the Aggies in the paint by a wide margin of 38-18. OPSU was able to force the Drovers into committing 15 turnovers, while only fumbling the ball 14 times themselves.
Furthermore, Science & Arts was whistled for 20 fouls, while OPSU was called for 21 infractions. USAO went 19-27 (.704) from the free-throw line, and the Aggies converted on 13-18 (.722) from the charity stripe.
Four different Drovers scored at least a dozen points in the win, led by Lainey Morrow's 23-point performance. Morrow shot 10-15 from the field and also recorded eight rebounds, along with three steals.
Diaka Berete delivered her third consecutive 20-point performance, concluding with 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Zaria Dorsey added 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals, while Jessica Palmer added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Trinitee Alexander contributed eight points and six rebounds, followed by Tonijah Fortune with seven points and seven rebounds.
Tahlia Sloan-Casey tallied five points, and Brayanna Polk chipped in a couple points, five points, and six assists.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers head to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Southwestern Christian at Drover Fieldhouse on Thursday, February 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM inside Drover Fieldhouse.
The SAC Tournament semifinals and finals will take place at Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City on February 27-28.
