On Wednesday afternoon, the Sooner Athletic Conference announced that four members of the USAO women's basketball team had earned All-Conference honors for their tremendous performances throughout the season. Lainey Morrow earned a first-team selection, followed by Diaka Berete on the third-team, as well Zaria Dorsey and Trinitee Alexander who earned an honorable mention selections. Alexander was also selected as the SAC Sixth Woman pf the Year.
The four honoree's helped lead the Drovers to a historic regular season, in which they got off to the best start in program history by beginning the season with 11 consecutive wins and concluded with an incredible 23-5 win-loss record heading into the postseason.
LAINEY MORROW-
The All-SAC selection is the first of Morrow's career, after delivering a sensational regular season. The sophomore from Bridge Creek concluded the regular season as the most efficient offensive player in the conference, averaging 14.6 points per game, shooting 57.2 percent from the field, 45.0 percent three-point range, and 83.8 percent from the free-throw line. Morrow had the best field goal percentage in the SAC and the fourth best free-throw percentage.
Additionally, Morrow averaged 6.6 rebounds per game, as well as 1.3 steals per game.
Last season, Morrow earned a selection to the SAC All-Freshman Team.
DIAKA BERETE-
The Canadian has been a massive boost for the Drovers this season, earning herself an All-SAC selection for the first time. The dynamic guard averaged 12.6 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.8 steals. Berete shot 40.0 percent from the field during the regular season, which ranked fifth in the conference.
ZARIA DORSEY-
The Drover legend earned her third All-Conference selection after yet another impressive season. The two-time NAIA All-American concluded the regular season averaging 10.8 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and 2.1 asissts per game. Earlier this season, Dorsey became the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
TRINITEE ALEXANDER-
The newcomer provided an immediate spark for the Drovers and made a huge impact on the team's success. Alexander concluded the regular season averaging 10.1 points per game on 51.1 percent shooting from the field. Additionally, she contributed 4.5 rebounds per game and 1.1 steals per game.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Drovers head to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Southwestern Christian at Drover Fieldhouse on Thursday, February 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM inside Drover Fieldhouse.
The SAC Tournament semifinals and finals will take place at Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City on February 27-28.
