The Oklahoma wrestling team closed its trip to the Virginia Duals with a pair of dominant victories over Ohio and Navy on Saturday, improving its record to 3-1 at the two-day event.

In OU’s first matchup of the double-header, the Sooners prevailed over Ohio (2-5) 33-6 after winning the first eight bouts.

At 125 pounds, No. 10 Joey Prata only needed an escape in the second period to claim a 1-0 decision victory and bid OU (6-3) the early lead, 3-0.

Oklahoma then went on a winning streak, starting with No. 30 Wyatt Henson strolling past Mason Brugh 15-3 to notch his sixth major decision as a Sooner. As 141 pounds, No. 30 Mosha Schwartz carried the momentum with a 4-3 decision, followed by No. 13 Mitch Moore claiming a 1-0 decision at 149 pounds.

A medical forfeit by Ohio’s Daniel Segura bidded Jared Hill the win in the 157-pound bout. Following Hill’s win, No. 16 Gerrit Nijenhuis came out victorious after a low-scoring battle ended in his favor, 3-2.

At 174, Tate Picklo comfortably won after picking up a four-point near fall in the third period to secure the 21-5 win by tech fall.

After losses at 184 and 197, heavyweight Josh Heindselman earned back the Sooners’ momentum with a pin over Jacob Padilla at the 1:37 mark. His pin solidified the Sooners’ momentous victory over the Bobcats, 33-6.

In the final dual of the Virginia Duals, the Sooners strolled past Navy (1-4), 28-12, winning the first six matches of the dual.

Prata jumped ahead early with a takedown in the first period, and increased his early advantage en route to a 4-0 shutout win over Navy’s Grant Treaster.

Henson followed up by breaking a 3-3 tie with a riding-time point at the end of the 133-pound bout to put the Sooners up 6-0.

Topping off an undefeated record at the Virginia Duals, Schwartz knocked off No. 14 Josh Koderhandt after pinning him in just 1:34 of the 141-pound bout. He finished 4-0 this weekend and improved his season record to 11-2, including four falls.

At 149 pounds, Mitch Moore won via medical forfeit.

At 157 pounds, Jared Hill knocked off Chase Caprella in a 14-1 major decision. Hill compiled three wins in his starting debut this weekend for the Sooners.

In his first collegiate start, Alejandro Herrera-Rondon snapped a 4-4 tie by taking down Val Park with seconds remaining in sudden victory.

Heindselman concluded the contest with a three-overtime victory that came via a riding time point to secure the 2-1 win.

Oklahoma will return to McCasland Field House to square off against No. 24 West Virginia at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 20. The dual will be televised on ESPN+.
