University of Oklahoma Sooners Notch Back-To-Back Wins

The No. 18 Oklahoma women’s tennis team claimed back-to-back wins against Arkansas, 4-1, and Missouri State, 5-0, on Saturday.

The Sooners first match of the day against the Razorbacks kicked off with a clinched OU doubles point. On court three, Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman defeated Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez 6-1. No. 12 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth followed it up with a 6-1 win on court two over Grace O’Donnell and Lenka Stara to claim the opening point.

When play was halted, No. 36 Carmen and Ivana Corley were up 5-2 against No. 46 Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink at the top court.

In singles, No. 82 Guzman finished first on court three, grabbing the 6-1, 6-4 win against Spink. Sleeth claimed the top-court victory over Keller in a 6-1, 6-2 fashion. Arkansas answered on court five, with Stara defeating Garcia Ruiz 6-3, 6-4.

To clinch the match, Pisareva took down Yuhan Liu 6-3, 6-3 on court six to secure the 4-1 victory for the Sooners.

When play was halted, Carmen Corley was up 7-5, 3-5 against No. 74 Gomez on court two and Staker was down 6-7 (1), 4-1 at the No. 4 spot vs. Cross.

The Sooners returned to the court to face Missouri State and opened the match by taking their second doubles point of the day. Garcia Ruiz and Guzman took court three with a clean 6-0 shutout over Juliette Robinson and Sandra Lukacova. The Corleys then followed up with a top-court 6-2 win over Tiera Jamond and Mary Houston to claim the point.

No. 12 Sleeth and Pisareva were up 5-2 against Alyson Piskulic and Diana Cabrera when play was halted on court two.

Garcia Ruiz opened singles action finishing first with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Silva Avakian on court six. Following right behind, Ivana Corley claimed court five 6-2, 6-0 against Alyson Piskulic. To clinch, Guzman dominated Houston 6-0, 6-0 on court two and Staker wrapped up her match against Sandra Lukacova right after, taking court four 6-1, 6-0.

When play was halted, Sleeth was up 6-1, 4-0 over Cabrera at the top court and Carmen Corley was up 6-2, 5-1 on court two against Robinson.
