The Oklahoma men’s tennis fell to No. 14 Arizona and No. 25 Middle Tennessee State on Saturday in Montgomery, Ala., to close their time at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic.
After clinching the doubles point last night against No. 14 Arizona, the Sooners resumed their match against the Wildcats in singles. OU dropped four-straight courts to give Arizona the 4-1 victory.
First to finish, No. 88 Colton Smith defeated No. 121 Alex Martinez 6-4, 6-2 at the top court. Following behind, No. 117 Herman Hoeyeraal took down No. 84 Justin Schlageter 6-3, 6-4 on court five, No. 45 Jonas Ziverts claimed court two over Siphos Montsi 6-1, 7-5 and Jay Friend defeated Luis Alvarez 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
The Sooners then matched up with Middle Tennessee State and fell 4-0. Despite Montsi and Hasson winning court three 6-3 over Ondrej Horak and Shu Matsuoka, OU lost the doubles point. The Blue Raiders claimed the top court from No. 44 Brostrom Poulsen and Francisco Rocha over Anselmo and Schlageter, 6-4. Then, secured the doubles point on court two with a 6-4 win from Pavel Motl and Stijn Slump against Han and Martinez.
In singles, Marcel Kamrowski claimed the 6-4, 6-0 victory over Schlageter on court five to extend MTSU’s lead. Right behind, No. 98 Brostrom Poulsen defeated Hasson 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot and Rocha clinched the match with a top-court win over Martinez, 6-4, 6-4.
